This November 2026, we’re delighted to welcome ceramic artist Marie-Therese Bosak to MeadCeramics for a special four-week hand-building workshop exploring the creation of beautiful ceramic luminaries.
Over four Monday sessions, Marie-Therese will guide you through the process of hand-building your own unique luminary — from 3 initial template ideas to construction & surface decoration, glazing and firing.
You’ll explore how to create form, pattern and carefully considered openings that allow light to shine through or incense to flow from your finished piece. There will be plenty of time to develop your ideas, refine your work and add your own creative touches along the way.
With a maximum of just six students, this is an intimate and hands-on workshop with plenty of individual guidance and time to enjoy the process of working with clay.
Across the four sessions, you’ll work through the complete process of creating your ceramic luminary, including:
Developing your luminary design
Hand-building techniques for creating a strong structure
Using templates to help with construction and design
Creating cut-outs, patterns and openings for light
Refining and finishing your form
Exploring underglazes and glaze
Preparing your piece for firing
Completing your finished ceramic luminary
Marie-Therese will share her knowledge and experience throughout the process, helping you develop your own ideas while learning new hand-building techniques.

The workshop fee includes approximately 1.2kg of clay per student, use of studio tools, templates, underglazes, glazing and firing.
This workshop is about more than simply making a ceramic object. Across the four weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to slow down, experiment with clay and develop a piece that is uniquely your own.
There’s something particularly lovely about a handmade luminary — during the day it becomes a sculptural ceramic piece, and when illuminated, the openings and textures reveal a completely different quality.
